The American Civil Liberties Union has launched a new website to mobilize grassroots resistance to policies that it views as a threat to civil rights and civil liberties.
To create the website, the ACLU hired digital experts who worked with the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, the White House and activist groups. The group has received more than $79 million in new online contributions since the election of President Donald Trump, and it is spending more than $13 million on the grassroots mobilization program, according to a Feb. 8 blog post.
“The crowds have funded us,” national political director Faiz Shakir told Fast Company. “And the crowds should get it back.”
According to the ACLU, People Power will be a one-stop hub that helps communicate with and train volunteers. “With this platform, we hope to help organize the mass resistance to President Trump’s bankrupt policies,” Shakir said in the Feb. 24 blog post.
The ACLU is planning a “resistance training” town hall on March 11 that can be viewed at grassroots events across the country.
