Secretaries at this law firm get extra bonuses; associates left out

Goodwin Procter will pay an extra $1,000 to all secretaries to recognize “hard work during these challenging times,” according to an internal email obtained by two legal publications. The law firm won’t be paying special bonuses to associates, however. (Above the Law, Thomson Reuters Legal)

AG Barr decries liberal district attorneys and bail reform

In a speech to police chiefs Friday, U.S. Attorney General William Barr condemned “social justice” district attorneys who don’t think it’s their job to enforce the law. Barr also criticized the “soft-on-crime crowd” and efforts to eliminate cash bail. (NOLA.com, USA Today, Barr’s prepared remarks)

Lawyer who argued Loving v. Virginia dies at 86

Bernard Cohen, an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer who successfully argued Loving v. Virginia before the U.S. Supreme Court, has died at age 86. Loving struck down Virginia’s ban on interracial marriages. (The New York Times, the Washington Post, NPR)

Lawyers and staffers are seeing bigger paychecks again after pay cuts because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
