Clifford Chance has hired two new partners into its Washington DC office, reaching double-digits for lateral hires in the US over the last year.
Joshua Berman and Glen Donath will both join the litigation and dispute resolution practice in Washington, alongside Joshua Fitzhugh who will join the practice as counsel.
Berman joins from the United States department of commerce, where he served as deputy general counsel after joining from US firm Katten Muchin in 2016.
He acted as associate investigative counsel for the Webster commission for the review of FBI security procedures, and was involved in the 2002 case in which agent Robert Hanssen was convicted of selling sensitive information to Russia for $1.4m.
Berman said: “With cross-border investigations on the rise, increasing cooperation among regulatory and enforcement agencies and the challenges of an evolving compliance landscape worldwide, I am very pleased to be with a global firm that can deliver what’s needed, right where our clients need it.”
Donath was a partner at Katten Muchin, where he worked with Berman between 2010 and 2016. He spent time as a senior assistant US attorney in the fraud and public corruption department for the District of Columbia representing ex-president Bill Clinton during the Lewinsky investigation and impeachment proceedings.
Fitzhugh also arrives from the US government after working in both the department of commerce’s international trade administration and state department’s office of legal affairs.
With the new additions, Clifford Chance now has 22 partners and counsel in white-collar litigation in the Americas. The Washington office is now staffed with 16 partners.
Clifford Chance head of US litigation David DiBari said: “We are building one of the leading international white collar and regulatory practices in the US.
“Our new colleagues are superior lawyers with credentials that enhance the team’s versatility and depth. We’ve just made a strong team even stronger, and we aren’t done yet. I couldn’t be happier to welcome all three of them to our team.”
