Clifford Chance has revealed its retention result for autumn 2018, the first of the magic circle to do so.
The firm offered newly-qualified jobs to 36 of its final seat trainees, out of 44 who applied for roles. There were 47 trainees in the cohort in total, meaning the firm’s retention rate is 76.5 per cent.
The result is below average for the firm. Since spring 2010, it has kept on 793 of 974 qualifying trainees, or 81 per cent.
In the spring, it kept on 44 of 48, or 92 per cent, its best result in three years.
Clifford Chance is only the second firm to announce its retention results so far. The other is Mayer Brown, which is keeping eight of its 10 qualifiers.
