Crowell & Moring and New York-based Herrick Feinstein have ended their merger talks.

The law firms announced the decision in a joint statement, report Bloomberg Big Law Business and the Am Law Daily (sub. req.), which says the New York Post was first with the news.

The statement reads: “Over the past several months, Crowell & Moring and Herrick Feinstein explored the idea of combining firms. After carefully weighing the merits of the opportunity, we have ended these discussions. Nonetheless, our firms maintain high regard for each other and value the friendships gained through this process.”

Crowell & Moring, a 500-lawyer firm based in Washington, D.C., had reportedly been looking for a bigger presence in New York. Herrick has about 130 lawyers and is known for its work handling real estate, sports and art law matters.
