Dechert has hired its first lateral partner in Dubai for over 18 months, after taking on two real estate lawyers from its US rival King & Spalding.
King & Spalding partner Stephen Kelly is joining Dechert. He will be joined by counsel Sarah Mahood who joins as a national partner.
Prior to King & Spalding, Kelly was a partner at Clyde & Co where he worked for five years. He will spearhead the firm’s real estate development and hospitality efforts in Dubai, advising hotel operators, service providers and landlords on projects in the region.
Camille Abousleiman, head of Dechert’s emerging markets group, said: “These hires demonstrate Dechert’s firm commitment to investing in and further expanding our Middle East capability.”
Dechert has had a presence in Dubai for six years, last making a lateral hire at the end of 2016 in the form of legacy Nabarro arbitration partner Ravinder Bhullar.
Dechert’s Dubai office now totals six partners, while King & Spalding’s is slightly larger at 10 partners.
