Cravath Swaine & Moore partner Allen Parker is to join Wells Fargo as its new general counsel.
Parker replaces James Strother, who has been leading the bank’s legal department for 13 years.
It was announced in December that a search for Strother’s successor had begun after he announced he was planning to retire.
He decided to stay with the bank in the meantime amid allegations of fake accounts and will continue to work with Wells Fargo for the next few months to assist with the transition.
Parker will take over from Strother at the end of this month after 17 years in Cravath’s partnership.
He led the firm’s corporate team between 2009 and 2010, and was elected as its managing partner in 2013. He stood down last year making way for Cravath’s first female boss Faiza Saeed.
Parker, who also joins as Wells Fargo’s senior executive vice president, will be based in San Francisco. He will report to Wells Fargo CEO Tim Sloan.
