Filmmakers have interviewed Justice Clarence Thomas for a documentary expected to be released in 2020.
The documentary is tentatively titled Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words, according to the website of the production company, Manifold Productions. CNN and the Hollywood Reporter have coverage.
“We intend to make a film that will tell the Clarence Thomas story truly and fully, without cover-ups or distortion,” according to the website statement.
CNN says Thomas has given extensive interviews for the project.
The president of Manifold Productions is Michael Pack, who was formerly the president of the conservative Claremont Institute. He has also worked on documentaries with former Trump adviser Steve Bannon, according to CNN.
“Although Clarence Thomas remains a controversial figure, loved by some, reviled by others, few know much more than a few headlines and the recollections of his contentious confirmation battle with Anita Hill,” the website says. “Yet the personal odyssey of Clarence Thomas is a classic American story and should be better known and understood. His life began in extreme poverty in the segregated South, and moved to the height of the legal profession, as one of the most influential justices on the Supreme Court.”
The Manifold Productions website says the documentary is intended for broadcast on PBS and for classroom educational use.
