Latham & Watkins has recruited Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan City litigator Martin Davies in a rare loss for the firm.
Davies joined Quinn Emanuel from Olswang in 2011, where he led the firm’s litigation practice, served on its management board and was a partner for seven years.
Quinn recruited Davies a year after taking on his Olswang colleague Alex Gerbi. Davies is a commercial litigator and recently advised on the Royal Bank of Scotland’s mammoth £4bn rights issue litigation, alongside Stewarts Law and Mishcon de Reya.
He is understood to be the first partner to exit Quinn’s London office. The US firm has been on a hiring spree for the last 12 months, taking Macfarlanes head of financial services David Berman, Herbert Smith Freehills construction disputes partner James Bremen and Addleshaw Goddard civil fraud head Mark Hastings.
The firm is set to move into Olswang’s City offices this year following its rapid City expansion.
Meanwhile Davies is one of a number of hires made by Latham in the past year. Latham has been significantly boosting its litigation group, also picking up Debevoise & Plimpton partner Sophie Lamb.
On the corporate side, the firm hired Allen & Overy corporate partner Ed Barnett and banking partner Stephen Kensell, as well as Slaughter and May corporate partner Sanjev Warna-kula-suriya.
