McDermott Will & Emery has announced plans to close its Rome office as part of a “strategic review” from its executive committee.
The office closure, effective on 30 September, will impact a small number of employees, the firm has confirmed.
This closure will result in a planned shift of focus on the Milan office which will now serve as a key point of reference for the firm’s clients and a vital part of McDermott’s European network.
McDermott Italy head Carlo Paolella said: “Following a review of our organizational structure and geographic footprint, we have concluded we could be working much more effectively and efficiently if we streamlined our Italian operations and consolidated our presence in the market by operating from one office; in this case, Milan. This means we will be closing our existing office in Rome.”
The firm’s Rome office has a total of 17 fee-earners and six partners, all of which split their time between that office and Milan.
McDermott remains absolutely committed to not only maintaining its presence in Italy but also to expanding it in the very near future. We have ambitious plans to further strengthen our presence in the market, always with a focus on becoming ever-more indispensable to our clients.”
