Veterans looking to appeal denials of benefits will have a new tool in their arsenal.

In a Friday post from Robert Ambrogi of LawSites, The Veterans Consortium Pro Bono Program and Pro Bono Net have launched a site to serve as an automated interview process and form generator to help veterans who have been denied benefits from the Board of Veterans Appeals.

The online portal, which is housed by Neota Logic, asks veterans several questions before generating the paperwork necessary for them file an appeal with the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. The site also provides resources, videos and information about the appellate process, giving veterans the option of going pro se or to be connected with a pro bono attorney.

“This new web platform is a leap ahead for our staff and dedicated volunteers and helps us live our credo that our veterans in need, our nation’s defenders, deserve the benefits and compensation they were promised, and the best legal services free of charge, to meet their challenges,” said Ed Glabus, executive director of The Veterans Consortium, in a press release.

Mark O’Brien, executive director of Pro Bono Net, added that the collaboration represented an “ideal use of online tools and expertise to support a truly national network of volunteers to serve veterans across the country.”

According to Ambrogi, the site uses the same technology platform as Pro Bono Net and contains intake and forms-completion process tools built by Neota Logic and Just-Tech. The site also contains resources for volunteer attorneys and matches inexperienced lawyers with mentors to learn the appellate process for denial of benefits.
