John Butterfield QC is defending a 16-year-old girl accused of luring a fellow teenager to a park where he was fatally attacked by a group of youths.
The girl, who cannot be named, is accused of ‘luring’ 17-year-old Lyrico Steede, known as Rico, to a park in Bulwell, Nottingham, using social media.
Nottingham Crown Court heard the victim was subjected to an ‘orchestrated and planned attack’ before he sought help. He suffered wounds to his face, chest, back and leg during the assault on February 13 and died five days later.
The prosecution alleges the girl encouraged Rico to meet her in the park in the knowledge he would be attacked.
In interview the girl said she did not recognise the group who chased Rico and that she had gone looking for him but become worried and went home. It was not until she heard of the attack on the news that she realised Rico was the victim.
Kasharn Campbell, 19, of no fixed address, Remmell Campbell-Miller, 18, formerly of Sneinton Boulevard, Sneinton, two 17-year-old boys and the Mr Butterfield’s client all deny murder.
The trial continues.
