No5 Barristers’ Chambers was selected by the Bar Council to provide a seminar explaining the Rule of Law, and in particular the systems for the protection of civil liberties and human rights in use in the United Kingdom.
As part of an international programme of exchanges, forging links between the UK Bar and foreign lawyers across the globe, the visiting delegation attended No5 Barristers’ Chambers at Greenwood House, just off Fleet Street in central London, on 8th May 2018.
Lawyers visiting from Brazil, Colombia and Mexico attended a seminar presented by Philip Rule, Manjit Gill QC (Head of International Human Rights group), Jo Rothwell (Head of Immigration group), and Philip Dayle, and with Mark Anderson QC (Head of Chambers) ready to answer any questions the visitors had.
Commenting after the event, Mr Marcos Xavier, of VHC Law in Brazil, wrote to say:
“Thank you very much for the Seminar and for the warm reception at No5 Chambers last Tuesday. It was brilliant. I personally enjoyed it very much. It’s very important for visiting lawyers, especially for those graduated and working outside the common law system, to see and understand the way the rule of law works under it”.
Mr Xavier also said the ability of the barristers at No5 to put across the important subject matter was “very impressive”.
Philip Rule, Deputy Head of the Public Law group, states
“We were delighted to be asked to host a seminar for the visiting delegation. I believe this work by the Bar Council is a great testament to the world-renown that the English and Welsh legal system possesses, and it is important that we continue to show the world what we do, and ensure our services are known as widely as possible.
The guest lawyers come from impressive practices across a broad range of practice areas, in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia, and have shown a real interest in learning about the UK’s legal system and how we as barristers offer our services. I have been fortunate enough to meet the group on several occasions now, and each of our guests have been a real pleasure to host. I am glad that the experts at No5 Chambers have been able to contribute to their experience in the UK and wish them well for the remainder of their time here”
