Norton Rose Fulbright and Chadbourne & Parke announced on Tuesday that they will merge into a firm with more than 4,000 lawyers in 32 countries.
In the United States, the combined firm will have more than 1,000 lawyers, including more than 300 lawyers in New York, according to a press release. The firm will have 58 offices across the globe.
Expected revenue of $2 billion for the combined firm would make it the sixth top-grossing firm in the United States, based on 2016 figures by the American Lawyer, reports Bloomberg Big Law Business.
The merger will take place in the second quarter of 2017. The firm will be called Norton Rose Fulbright.
The Am Law Daily previously reported that the merger talks were driven by Chadbourne’s “struggling position in the market and shrinking size” and Norton Rose Fulbright’s interest in Chadbourne’s project finance group.
Norton Rose Fulbright’s global chief executive Peter Martyr issued this statement:
“We are delighted to unite Norton Rose Fulbright with Chadbourne & Parke to create a global law firm that few can match. Chadbourne has a proud history, and is known for its world class practices in energy, infrastructure, banking and finance. Joining forces with our new colleagues, we can offer our clients significant new capabilities in New York and Washington, D.C. We will benefit from new offices in Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Istanbul, and we will be able to offer our clients expanded capabilities in London, Dubai, Latin America and other key markets.”
