TalkTalk legal director Nadia Hoosen has joined breakdown cover provider AA as its new general counsel.
Hoosen took the role of TalkTalk legal director in 2013, three years after she joined the business as head of legal for its Tiscali and Opal businesses.
TalkTalk de-merged from Carphone Warehouse in 2010 to become an independent company on the London Stock Exchange. Prior to this, Hoosen worked in-house at Carphone Warehouse; her first move away from private practice firm ClarksLegal where she had trained.
One of Hoosen’s biggest challenges while at TalkTalk was its heavily-scrutinised data breach issues, in which the company was hit with a fine of £400,000 by the Information Commissioner’s Office and subsequent £100,000 penalty. She reported to Tim Morris, who serves as TalkTalk’s group general counsel.
Hoosen replaces Mark Millar at AA, who joined the motor breakdown company in 2014 from Domino’s Pizza. He also worked at media company Future and spent time working as an associate at Allen & Overy between 1997 and 2002.
Millar joined the AA in 2014 ahead of its flotation on the London Stock Exchange. The move followed its demerger from Saga when it was sold by private equity owners CVC, Permira and Charterhouse.
Clifford Chance advised on AA’s 2014 listing, but was replaced by King & Wood Mallesons as the company’s principal adviser several months after Millar’s arrival. Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer then took the lead after KWM EUME’s administration, while Proskauer Rose is another key adviser.
Other AA panel firms in the past have included Norton Rose Fulbright, which was named as a “back up” principal adviser in 2015.
