President Donald Trump on Thursday announced the nomination of 16 people to federal judgeships, including the nomination of deputy White House counsel Gregory Katsas to a federal appeals court.

Katsas is a former Jones Day partner and a former Justice Department official in the George W. Bush administration. He was nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, report the Associated Press and BuzzFeed News. The White House announcement is here.

Katsas has argued more than 75 appeals, including a Supreme Court challenge to the Obama administration’s health care law. He is a former clerk to Justice Clarence Thomas.

Other federal appellate nominees are Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Wesley Bounds of Oregon, nominated to the San Francisco-based 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals; and Judge Elizabeth L. “Lisa” Branch of the Georgia Court of Appeals, nominated to the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
