White & Case is to retain 83 per cent of its London trainees this autumn, continuing its trend of strong retention results this year.
The firm revealed that 15 trainees were offered positions at the firm out of a possible 18. All 15 accepted.
The announcement continues White & Case’s strong round of retention results, with 88 per cent of its spring qualifiers staying on in Spring 2017.
In total, the US firm has retained 86 per cent of trainees for 2017.
The newly-qualified (NQ) lawyers join global practices including banking, commercial litigation, intellectual property, international arbitration, M&A and tax. One of the qualifiers will also be joining the firm’s Moscow office.
White & Case raised its salaries for associates across the board in May, with NQ pay rising by almost 17 per cent from £90,000 to £105,000.
One-year PQE associates now get £110,000 compared with £95,000, an increase of 16 per cent, while salaries for two-year PQE rose by 18 per cent from £101,000 to £120,000.
At 3PQE and above associate salaries at White & Case are discretionary. The firm added that the discretionary would be “as competitive as those detailed in the legal salary grid”.
Trainee salaries also increased by £2,000 for both year one (now at £46,000) and year two (£50,000) trainees.
