Question of the Week
Posted October 17, 2018, 4:15 pm CDT
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has ascended to pop culture prominence, as shown on the October cover of the ABA Journal. Ginsburg’s trailblazing career has drawn a wide range of admirers beyond those who hope for her Supreme Court intercession.
Rarely does devotion to the law stir such public veneration. Few gift shops feature a lawyer in the display case. When Senior Judge Damon J. Keith of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals at Cincinnati reached 50 years as a federal judge last year, he drew praise as a “legal icon.” But the 96-year-old jurist’s fervent followers are found largely in his native Detroit.
This week, we’d like to ask you: Who is your legal icon? Is it someone as well known as Ginsburg, or a 1L professor who set fire to your lawyerly ambitions? And what makes this person the one you’d buy as a bobblehead?
Answer in the comments.
Read the answers to last week’s question: Do you bring your smartphone or laptop to meetings?
Posted by Greg: “I sometimes take my iPad or laptop to a meeting to take notes because I can type these notes much faster than I can write them longhand and it is actually less distracting for me since I am a very fast typist. I do not use it without first informing my client of my purpose. I then often share the notes I have taken with my clients who were present at the meeting so we all have the meeting record.”
